On our second day in Puerto Princesa, we opted for the Underground River tour. We had to wake up early, around 5:30am, for a two-hour land travel to Sabang. The guide also wanted us to be the first in the tour to avoid long lines as it can get really crowded during the mid-day. Good thing the staff of the hotel prepared early breakfast for us… kudos to the staff of Liberty Pension Park Hotel!

After two-hours, we arrived at the Sabang Port to take a 30-minute banco ride to the Underground River. When we arrived, there were already a number of tourists waiting for their ride. The good thing about joining a tour is you do not need to do the arrangements by yourself. They will do everything and all you need to do is just wait.

Travel to the Underground River was uneventful but the scenary is picture perfect. On the way to the Underground River one would pass by limestones, cliffs and mountains.

We arrived at the Underground River early with not so many tourists yet. After registering, we were quickly accommodated and boarded a boat to start our tour. I don’t know if it is their training, but the boatman assigned to us was very funny which made the whole trip to the Underground River pleasant.

These are some photos I took from inside the Underground River.

The whole tour lasted for 30 minutes. It did not cover the whole stretch of the river but it was good enough. After the tour, we had enough time to take some photos of the beach and the national park.

Interesting find is this solar panel which they use to charge the lights that the boatmen/guide use in the tour. I also noticed that the streetlights in Sabang Port are also solar powered.

After the tour, we went back to Sabang to have simple lunch before heeding back to the city center. On the way back, we stopped by at Buenavista View Deck to have an overview of the Ulugan Bay.

A trip to the Underground River is a must-visit to any visitor of Puerto Princesa City. It maybe quite scary for some to enter a dark tunnel but once inside, there are amazing views waiting the visitors.
